Survey of Slaughterhouses: January-June 2017

One could find 74 poultry and livestock slaughterhouses operating in Georgia, in June 2017. 65% of these slaughterhouses were in 4 regions (Kvemo Kartli, Kakheti, Imereti & Shida Kartli). 74.4 thousand heads of livestock were slaughtered in the first quarter of 2017,  56.3% were cattle and  43.7% - small livestock (sheep, goat, pig etc). Number of slaughtered poultry reached 2,463.2 thousand. Totally 91.9 thousand heads of livestock have been slaughtered in the 2nd quarter of 2017 including 49.9% of cattle and 50.1% small livestock. The number of slaughtered poultry was 2,499.1 thousand.

Tourism in Georgia: January-July, 2017

3,978,657 tourists arrived in Georgia in January-July 2017, (17%, i.e. 572,195 people - more than the data of the first 7 months in 2016). Most tourists came from Azerbaijan (928,170), Armenia (851,759), Russia (726,214) and Turkey (672,363) - the number of tourists from neighboring countries (3,178,506 people) reached 80% of the total number of tourists.

Survey of Slaughterhouses: 2016

One could find 86 poultry and livestock slaughterhouses in Georgia in 2016, 65% out of which were in 4 regions (Kvemo Kartli, Kakheti, Imereti & Shida Kartli). It was possible to slaughter maximum 34,457 livestock and poultry during the day in the slaughterhouses in 2016 (possible maximum daily capacity). 311,313 heads of livestock were slaughtered in slaughterhouses, including cattle - 59.7% and small livestock - 40.3% (sheep, goat, pig, etc.). Total number of poultry slaughtered in slaughterhouses is 9,620,566.

Domestic trips in Georgia: 1st quarter, 2017

Internal visitors traveled several times in Georgia in January-March 2017 - the total number of visits in the first quarter of the year amounted to 3 million visits, which is 1% less than the same period of the previous year. Most of the domestic visits were made to see friends and relatives (55.2%), and small number of visits (12.7%) were done for treatment/recovery and shopping (12.2%), visits for rest, entertainment and recreation reached 4,6%. 27% of internal visits were made in the capital of Georgia in the first quarter of 2017, followed by Imereti (20%) and Adjara (11%). Mtskheta-Mtianeti (24%), Samtskhe-Javakheti (24%) and Tbilisi (15%) were the most frequently visited regions.

Domestic Travelling in Georgia: 2016

Domestic visitors in Georgia made several tours during a year – totally up to 13 mln visits were organized in 2016, which exceeds the data of 2015 by 5%. Most of internal visits were conducted for meeting friends and relatives (52.5%), small number of visits were made for shopping (12.3%) and treatment/health (11.1%), visits aimed at resting, entertaining and recreation composed 9%.

Beekeeping in 2016

In 2016 the number of bee families in Georgia made up 205,300 units at the end of the year. According to regions the most number of beehives were in Kakheti, Imereti and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti (more than a half of the total number of beehives in these three regions composes 52,2%). In 2016 2,100,000 kg honey had been produced in Georgia. Annually, up to 2 mln t of honey is produced in the world. One of the biggest markets of honey is the European Union – it produced 268 thousand t of honey in 2015; more than 197 thousand t of honey cost up to 200 mln Euros was received via import (data of European statistics).
