Livestock of sheep and goats
Total amount of sheep and goats at the end of 2016 was 936,500 heads. Among them sheep number made up 875,900 heads, goats – 60,600 heads. Among the other regions Kakheti is a leader as per sheep and goats quantity (sheep – 55%, goats – 38,4%).

In 2016 up to 155,000 heads of sheep are exported from Georgia, the amount of import is insignificant.

In 2016 the weight of meat produced in Georgia was 4,600,000 kg (slaughter weight), which made up 7% of totally produced meat (66,100,000 kg). The highest amount of meat from the regions was produced from Kakheti (2,600,000 kg., 56,5%).

Average prices of meat from sheep and goats
Average price of slaughter meat produced in Georgia was 9.99 GEL/kg at “Fermiskari” in 2016, average consumption price made up 11.85 GEL/kg.
Export-import of sheep and goats meat
In 2016 757 t of meat cost of 3.7 mln USD are exported from Georgia (from which the share of goat’s meat is only 0,5%). Import is insignificant (100% sheep meat).

Volume of sheep and goats milk received in 2016 was 9,900,000 l, which made up 1.8% of totally produced milk (including the milk received from cows and female buffalos: 540,100,000 l).

Production of sheep wool in Georgia
In 2016 the total weight of the received sheep wool made up 2,000,000 kg. Among the regions Kakheti is a leader, it received 1,100,000 kg wool (55.0%), it is followed by Kvemo Kartli – 500,000 t, Samtskhe-Javakheti – 200 t and Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 100 t, other regions received totally 100 t of wool.
Average shorn wool
Average shorn wool per 1 head of sheep is 2.4 kg. This rate fluctuates from 2.3 to 2.8 kg.
Average price of wool
In 2016 average price for wool according to its quality at “Fermiskari” was 0.80-1.00 GEL/kg.
Export-import of wool
In 2016 more than 1mln kg of wool is exported from Georgia, import is zero-rated.
